Job summary

University of Alabama at Birmingham's Cooper Green Mercy site seeks an entry-level nursing assistant to support nursing staff and provide patient care. You will take vitals, prepare exam rooms, and assist with procedures as ordered.

Qualified candidates will have a high school diploma with CCMA certification and CPR/BLS. This onsite role operates during day shifts with potential cross-department coverage.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (required).
• CCMA Certification from NHA or AAMA is required.

Responsibilities

• Assists in providing accurate, prompt direct and indirect nursing care; stocks and maintains exam rooms; sets up exam rooms for procedures; takes and records vitals and may perform EKGs, urine tests, pregnancy tests, or other point-of-care tasks.
• Interviews patients to obtain health history data; documents complaints; updates EHR with information on medications, allergies, etc.
• Administers oral, subcutaneous, intramuscular, topical, and inhalation medications as ordered by providers.
• Communicates with patients and families; maintains patient confidentiality and follows safety protocols.
• Maintains a safe, organized environment and assists across departments to ensure staffing coverage.
• Performs blood and urine specimen collection following proper identification and procedures.
• Handles patient inquiries and messages in the EHR inbox, ensuring timely communication and escalation when needed.
