Job summary

The Whitaker Clinic laboratory at UAB Medicine in Birmingham seeks a Medical Assistant to perform clinical procedures, draw phlebotomy, injections, and support nurses and providers in a busy outpatient setting.

Under supervision, the MA will prepare patients for treatment, assist with protocol completion, and handle light clerical tasks, with a focus on patient safety, accuracy, and compassionate care for patients from newborns to seniors.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or CCMA certification required; if certified by another agency, AAMA or NHA certification must be obtained within six months of employment.
• Current CPR certification required or must be obtained within thirty days of employment.

Responsibilities

• Perform clinical procedures to prepare patients and/or research participants for treatment or protocol.
• Assist physician or other healthcare team member with completion of treatment/protocol.
• Perform simple, non-invasive patient procedures according to applicable policy and/or protocol.
• May perform various clerical and/or lab duties as requested.
• Responds to the unique needs of all patients ages newborn through geriatric.

Job Description

Qualifications

High School diploma or GED required. Currently certified as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) required. If certified by another accrediting agency, AAMA or NHA certification must be obtained within six (6) months of employment. Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required or must be obtained within thirty (30) days of employment.
