Job summary

University of Alabama at Birmingham is seeking an entry-level CCMA in the Cooper Green Medical Center. This on-site role supports nurses and providers by performing vital signs, patient prepping, and basic nursing tasks in a busy clinic.

You will document patient data in the EHR, assist with exams, collect specimens as directed, and ensure patient safety and confidentiality throughout the visit. Day shift with competitive pay and opportunities for growth.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with CCMA certification (NHA or AAMA) required.
• Two years of clinical experience preferred; experience cannot replace education.
• Current CPR/BLS certification from AHA or ARC.

Responsibilities

• Assists in providing nursing care, stocks exam rooms, and prepares rooms per provider orders.
• Takes and records vitals; performs EKGs, urine dipsticks, pregnancy tests, or other point-of-care tasks.
• Interviews patients for health history; documents chief complaints and updates EHR.
• Administers medications per provider orders (oral, subcutaneous, IM, topical, inhalation, etc.).
• Communicates with patients and families per protocol; protects confidentiality.
• Maintains a safe environment and adheres to safety regulations.
• May mentor students as assigned.
• Uses department equipment for patient care and non-patient tasks.
• Handles patient inquiries via EHR inbox; prioritizes and responds within scope.
• Provides coverage across departments to maintain staffing levels.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
