A Certified or Registered Medical Assistant/Bilingual (Spanish and English) provides patient care under the direction of a medical provider. Responsible for rooming patients, taking vital signs, and facilitating the workflow of the physician schedule. Utilizes the EMR to retrieve patient's medical records, x-ray films, scans, lab work, etc., in preparation for the patient's office visit. Performs computer data entry to maintain and update the patient's electronic medical record. Performs general clerical duties in support of patient care including answering phones, relaying messages, placing follow-up calls to patients, copying, and faxing.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of a Medical Assistant training program required.
- Registered MA or nationally certified MA certifications required.
- Two to four years of prior medical assistant or healthcare experience preferred.
- Phlebotomy skills required.
- Bilingual skills (Spanish).
- Computer skills and typing required. Previous experience utilizing an electronic medical record strongly preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Calm, professional attitude in stressful situations and interactions. High level of ethics in maintaining patient confidentiality.
- Physical and mental requirements include standing, walking, sitting, handling light materials, multitasking, dealing with stressful situations, good listening skills, alertness, analytical and problem-solving skills, good memory, concentration, judgment, initiative, and patience.
- Effective communication with patients, physicians, and staff in verbal and written form.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities: Patient Relations
- Achieve customer/patient satisfaction by greeting and attending to patient needs.
- Respond to patient requests promptly.
- Assist with making patient appointments, obtaining demographics, insurance, and referral information.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
- Assist with nursing desk phones, voicemail, and relay messages timely to healthcare personnel.
Clerical
- Maintain patient charts as outlined by practitioners.
- Order and retrieve patient records, x-ray films, scans, lab work, etc., in preparation for visits.
- Fax necessary documentation to appropriate medical offices promptly.
- Support nursing and physician staff with copying, typing, and faxing.
- Schedule out-of-clinic tests and procedures per doctor’s orders.
- Post patient results on charts and forward for review and signature.
Documentation
- Document prior authorizations, log authorizations, and forward to relevant departments.
- Maintain outpatient procedure logs and check for outstanding results daily.
- Accurately document observations, actions, and patient outcomes in compliance with confidentiality guidelines.
