Job summary

Indiana Health Centers, Inc. (IHC) is recruiting a Medical Assistant (MA) for IHC South Bend-Bendix to support patient care across examination rooms and labs. You will collect information, take vital signs, and assist clinicians with procedures and testing, while maintaining accurate records in the EMR.

Recent graduates and certified MAs are encouraged to apply; job responsibilities include immunizations, venipunctures, and basic lab testing as part of routine care in a community health setting.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Functions as a support person for the patient; assists the patient to the examination room, provides information, and collects information for the provider.
• Obtains vital signs and other pertinent data.
• Completes and updates the medical history of the patient.
• Checks the healthcare plan appropriate for the patient’s age.
• Assists the doctor with examinations, minor surgeries, EKGs, hearing and vision testing, and nebulizer treatments.
• Performs venipunctures and immunizations.
• Performs hematocrits, blood sugars, urine tests, pregnancy tests, lead screens, strep tests, etc.
• Maintains logs and paperwork for tests and procedures.

Medical Assistant role responsibilities include:

• Functions as a support person for the patient; assists the patient to the examination room, gives information to the patient, and collects information for the provider
• Obtains vital signs and other pertinent physical data
• Completes and updates the medical history of the patient
• Check the health care plan appropriate for the patient’s age
• Assists the doctor with examinations, minor surgeries, performs EKGs, hearing and vision testing, and nebulizer treatments
• Performs venipunctures and gives immunizations
• Performs HCT/HGBs, hematocrit, blood sugars, urine dipsticks, pregnancy tests, lead screens, strep tests, etc.
• Prepares and sends out laboratory, pap, lead screens, and STD for testing
• Keeps logs and paperwork associated with the above tests and procedures current
• Records laboratory tests and processes laboratory test results
• Follows up on TB and Immunizations
• Updates EMR with test results and checks results against the lab test log
• Completes medical and laboratory supply inventories for all exam rooms and labs
• Sterilizes instruments

Requirements

Required:

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Proof of graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant (MA) program
• Proof of current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification (AED included)

Preferred:

• Certified Medical Assistant
