Job summary

Stamford Health is seeking a Medical Assistant for a Monday–Friday outpatient practice. The role involves greeting patients, taking vitals, assisting clinicians during exams, and handling administrative tasks to optimize the patient experience.

Flexibility to work 4 shifts per week and maintain clinical flow is essential. Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, MA certification, BLS/Heart Saver, basic MS Office skills, and strong communication and customer service abilities.

Qualifications

  • Certification or diploma from an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • National certification preferred.
  • Heart Saver or BLS certification required.
  • Basic computer skills (MS Office: Word, Excel).
  • Strong phone and customer service skills are essential.
  • Clear verbal and written English communication is required.
  • Team player with flexibility to adapt to workload.

Responsibilities

  • Provide patient care in outpatient physician practice under supervision.
  • Assist with clinical and clerical duties to optimize patient experience.
  • Greet patients and handle inquiries by phone or in person.
  • Prepare patients for visits and assist with exams and procedures.
  • Record medical history, vital signs, and visit purpose.
  • Support care delivery by assisting providers during exams and basic lab tasks.
  • Complete patient records and schedule procedures, precerts, and tests.
  • Handle prescriptions, notes, forms, and miscellaneous communications.
  • Maintain clinical flow across the practice.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent
Certification or Diploma from accredited Medical Assistant school/program
National Certification
Heart Saver OR BLS Certification

This is a Monday-Friday position, can be 8:00am-4:00pm or 9:00am-5:00pm. Requires 4 shifts per week.

Major Accountabilities / Critical Responsibilities
  • Provide patient care in outpatient physician practice under the direction of the practicing physician, physician assistant, or licensed nurse.
  • Assist with clinical and clerical duties to ensure optimization of patient experience within the practice.
  • Welcomes patients by greeting them, in person or on the telephone; answering or referring inquiries.
  • Prepares patients for the health care visit by directing and/or accompanying them to the examining room; providing examination gowns and drapes; helping them to position themselves for the examination and/or treatment; arranging examining room instruments, supplies, and equipment.
  • Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; reviewing and/or recording medical history; taking vital signs; confirming purpose of visit or treatment.
  • Supports patient care delivery by helping health care providers during examinations; preparing laboratory specimens; performing basic laboratory tests on the premises; disposing of contaminated supplies; sterilizing medical instruments; drawing blood; preparing patients for x-rays; taking electrocardiograms; removing sutures; changing dressings.
  • Completes records by recording patient examination, treatment, and test results.
  • Schedule hospital procedures, surgeries and tests. Precert and obtain test results.
  • Handle phone calls and messages for prescriptions, notes, forms, etc.
  • Complete disability and insurance forms.
  • Maintain clinical flow in all areas of the practice.
Qualifications/Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Certification or Diploma from accredited Medical Assistant school/program required.
  • National Certification preferred.
  • Heart Saver OR BLS Certification required
  • Two years job experience is preferred.
  • Demonstrate basic computer skills ( MS Office, Word, Excel)
  • Demonstrates strong phone/customer service skills
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written English proficiency required
  • Demonstrate willingness to work in a team environment.
  • Demonstrate flexibility due to unexpected changes in workload.
