Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant Program OR current enrollment in, or completion of coursework in a healthcare professional program (e.g., medical school, PA program, nursing program, or related clinical training) OR equivalent combination of education and experience (1-3 years).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of clinical workflows, patient care, and basic medical terminology.
Physical Requirements
  • This position requires moderate standing/walking, as well as lifting, positioning, pushing, and/or transferring of patients.
Desired Qualifications
  • Certification as a Medical Assistant desired.
  • Specific skills preference: 1-3 years previous experience in assisting healthcare provider with patient care, preferably in outpatient physician office setting, ambulatory care setting.
  • Experience working in a high-risk OB Clinic; hands on experience with obstetrics and gynecology procedures and IUD's including female exams and Pap smears; knowledge of surgical instruments.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work well within a team setting.
  • Communicates effectively.
  • Demonstrates active listening, written, verbal and information technology skills.
  • Competence in computer usage, telephone etiquette, participate in team and staff meetings, and follow clinic guidelines and protocols.
  • Must have history of excellent attendance and punctuality.
  • Demonstrated abilities to efficiently manage time and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Moderate standing/walking, as well as, lifting, positioning, pushing and/or transferring patients.

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.
