Responsibilities

Job Summary:

The Clinic Medical Assistant supports healthcare providers and clinical staff by performing both clinical and administrative duties to ensure efficient clinic operations and high-quality patient care. This role is essential in creating a safe, organized, and compassionate environment for patients.

Reports To:

Director, Outpatient Services | Nurse Supervisor

Hourly Range:

$15.16 - $27.46 (posted hourly range excludes overtime, and bonuses are not guaranteed)

Essential Job Functions
  • Prepare patients for examinations and assist providers during clinical procedures
  • Take and record vital signs, medical histories, and patient information accurately
  • Perform basic clinical tasks such as injections, specimen collection, and EKGs (as permitted by scope of practice)
  • Maintain clean, organized, and well-stocked exam rooms
  • Document patient care in electronic health record (EHR) systems
  • Schedule patient appointments and assist with patient flow
  • Follow infection control, safety, and HIPAA guidelines at all times
Additional Duties
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants will meet the following minimum qualifications.

  • Applicants must be at least eighteen (18) years of age or older.
  • A high school diploma, General Educational Development (GED) equivalency or other high school equivalency credential is required. Applicant must provide an official transcript(s) for high school and any post-high school education. Applicant must submit the GED certificate or other high school equivalency credential if applicable.
  • Applicants must have successfully completed the first academic semester (16 weeks) of San Juan College's Medical Assistant Certification Program.
  • Previous training will be evaluated by the San Juan College admissions office and/or Medical Assistant Program Coordinator or Dean to determine equivalency. Applicants who believe they have the required training can choose to test out of a course according to San Juan College policies.
  • Applicants will be physically capable of performing the essential functions of the apprenticeship program, with or without a reasonable accommodation, and without posing a direct threat to the health and safety of the individual or others.
  • Applicants must be a U.S. Citizen, permanent resident, or DACA student.
  • Applicants must pass a drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Applicants must meet San Juan College entry requirements for acceptance into the college.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the clinic for extended periods
  • Ability to lift or move up to 25 pounds
  • Manual dexterity to perform clinical tasks and use medical equipment
  • Ability to communicate clearly with patients and staff
Working Conditions/Environmental Exposures

Environmental hazards such as chemicals, solvents, needles, needle containers, sharps, blood, body fluids, various infectious/communicable diseases, infectious medical waste, radiation, and/or radioactive materials and/or radioactive waste, proximity to moving mechanical parts. Protective clothing/equipment may be necessary.

Animas Health Immunizations And Vaccinations Requirements

Aligns with CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) for Healthcare Personnel

  • Hepatitis B- Lab evidence of immunity (titer) to Hepatitis B or three doses Hep B vaccine at appropriate intervals
  • Influenza- documentation of current seasonal flu vaccine (mandatory from November 1st through March 31st each year)
  • Measles, Mumps, and Rubella - Lab evidence of immunity (titer) to Measles, Mumps, and Rubella or 2 doses of MMR Vaccination
  • Varicella (chickenpox) - Lab evidence of immunity (titer) to Varicella or 2 doses of Varicella Vaccine
  • Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis (Tdap) - documented proof of immunization
  • Tuberculosis Screening - Documentation of a two-step TB skin test within the past year OR lab verification of a negative TB Gold or T-Spot tuberculin test within the past 6 months
  • Vaccine records or evidence of immunity are required prior to 1st day of scheduled work.
