Job summary

Animas Surgical Hospital is seeking a Certified Nursing Assistant to join the inpatient team in Colorado. You will provide routine nursing care, assist with ADLs, monitor vital signs, and support patients and families according to protocol.

Hourly Rate

$20.50 - $30.43 per hour (hourly rate does not include overtime or bonuses which are not guaranteed)

Essential Job Functions
  • Organize and provide basic nursing care for patients and their families.
  • Perform various service duties and routine technical tasks.
  • Basic knowledge of procedures, policies, standards of care. Ability to follow directions, established procedures and protocols.
  • Provide assistance to patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, combing hair, oral hygiene, shaving, putting on stockings and/or slippers, dressing, ambulation, and toileting.
  • Assist patients with equipment for treatment, including anti-embolic stockings, bladder scanner, intermittent pneumatic compression devices, CPMs, incentive spirometers, etc.
  • Take vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration). Frequency of vital signs can range from three times per day to more often per policy details.
  • Input and output: measure and record a patient’s intake and output as part of daily assessment and treatment as required.
  • Assist in helping patients move or transfer from bed to chair, or transport to other departments following specific protocols to avoid injury.
  • Provide emotional support to patients and families.
  • Document care: vital signs, interventions, I&O, and relevant changes in the patient’s condition.
  • Prepare patients' rooms and beds for admission or return; ensure the room is supplied per protocol.
  • Keep bed and room clean and dry; change bedding as needed and keep the area safe and organized.
  • Maintain a clean, neat, and comfortable patient care area; remove unused supplies and equipment and organize furnishings and equipment.
  • Encourage hydration and monitor water intake; report inadequate intake to the RN and offer a drink at the bedside.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.

Certification, Licensure: Certified Nursing Assistant in the state of Colorado; current CPR certification.

Experience, Training, Knowledge
  • One (1) year inpatient experience preferred; ability to perform simple mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English – this is for the purpose of transcribing and communicating approved providers’ orders at a level generally acquired via a high school education.
Physical Requirements

Requires lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling up to fifty (50) pounds; stooping, kneeling, and/or crouching; standing and walking more than five (5) hours per day; visual acuity to distinguish skin tone variations, IV infiltration, infection, read telemetry and blood pressure gauges; auditory acuity to distinguish respiration, heart, and bowel sounds; ability to perceive sounds made by machinery or equipment indicating dangerous or improper operation.

Working Conditions / Environmental Exposures

Potential environmental hazards include chemicals, solvents, needles, sharps, blood, body fluids, infectious/communicable diseases, infectious medical waste, radiation, and/or radioactive materials. Protective clothing/equipment may be necessary.

Immunizations and Vaccinations

ASH immunizations requirements align with the CDC’s ACIP for Healthcare Personnel. Documentation or evidence of immunity or vaccination is required prior to the first day of scheduled work, as applicable:

  • Hepatitis B: Lab evidence of immunity or three-dose vaccine
  • Influenza: Documentation of current seasonal flu vaccine (mandatory November 1 through March 31)
  • Measles, Mumps, and Rubella: Immunity or 2 doses of MMR
  • Varicella: Immunity or 2 doses Varicella vaccine
  • Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis (Tdap): Documentation of immunization
  • Tuberculosis: Documentation of a two-step TB skin test or negative TB test within specified timeframes
  • Vaccine records or evidence of immunity required prior to first day of scheduled work
