Job summary

Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, IL is seeking a Medical Assistant to support Physicians, PAs, and RNs in ambulatory care. You will help manage patient flow, prepare exam rooms, take vital signs, and perform basic point-of-care testing to ensure smooth clinic operations.

The role requires a high school diploma, CMA certification, CPR, and strong communication and organizational skills. Preferred: 1 year of clinical experience, phlebotomy, and Epic Ambulatory experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Clinical Medical Assistant Certification required upon hire.
• Rush Apprenticeship grads must obtain CMA certification within six months.
• Current CPR certification required on start date.
• Strong computer skills and interpersonal abilities.
• Excellent customer service and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates and maintains organized patient flow.
• Performs patient intake: vital signs, reason for visit, allergies, meds.
• Prepares patient for exam and assists provider with procedures.
• Reviews schedules and ensures charts are available for visits.
• Performs basic lab tests and EKGs as needed.
• Administers immunizations and injections under physician direction.
• Documents care in the electronic medical record and handles phone calls for results.
• Maintains exam rooms, supplies, and equipment cleanliness.
• Supports scheduling, care coordination, and cross-coverage as needed.
