Job summary

Rush University Medical Center in Chicago seeks a Medical Assistant to support physicians, nurses and other staff in an ambulatory care setting. You will manage patient flow, prep rooms, perform vital signs and point-of-care tests, and assist with injections and immunizations under supervision.

The role requires certification within hire or six months for apprenticeship graduates, CPR on start date, and strong communication and organizational skills.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Clinical Medical Assistant Certification required upon hire.
• Rush Apprenticeship grads must obtain certification within six months.
• Current CPR certification required on start date.
• Computer skills are required.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent customer service and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates and maintains organized patient flow.
• Performs patient intake: vital signs, reason for visit and interim history.
• Prepares patient for exam and supports procedures.
• Reviews appointment schedules and ensures patient charts are ready.
• Performs basic lab tests and phlebotomy.
• Administers immunizations, injections, and medications as directed.
• Documents care in Epic and manages referrals.
• Cleans and stocks exam rooms, and maintains supplies.
• Calls patients regarding results and test instructions.
• Assists in scheduling tests and follow-ups.
