Job summary

Rush University Medical Center is seeking a Medical Assistant to support physicians, nurses, and clinicians in an ambulatory care setting in Chicago. The role focuses on patient flow, room preparation, and basic clinical tasks under supervision.

The ideal candidate will hold a Medical Assistant certification, CPR, and have strong communication, organization, and computer skills. The position offers a competitive hourly pay with a $3,000 sign-on bonus and comprehensive Rush benefits.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Clinical Medical Assistant Certification required by hire.
• Rush Apprenticeship graduates must obtain certification within six months.
• Current CPR certification required on start date.
• Inventory, computer and basic documentation skills emphasized.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates and maintains organized patient flow.
• Performs patient intake: vital signs, height/weight, visit reason, interim history, allergies, meds.
• Prepares patient for exam based on visit reason.
• Assists provider with procedures and patient support.
• Reviews schedules and ensures patient charts are available for visits.
• Reviews charts and laboratory/ancillary reports for provider at visit time.
• Performs basic lab work and testing per standards; phlebotomy and EKGs.
• Administers immunizations as ordered by physician.
• Documents medications and care in Epic per policy.
• Maintains exam rooms, treatment rooms and workstations.
• Calls patients regarding test results and instructions; processes refills per protocol.
• Assists in scheduling tests, procedures and follow-ups.
• Maintains inventory, equipment quality control and cleanliness.
• Provides cross-coverage and participates in quality improvement.
