Job summary

Planned Parenthood of Florida is seeking a dedicated Medical Assistant to join our North Tampa health center. You will be integral to our culture built on respect, caring, support, effective communication, teamwork, collaboration, accountability and responsibility.

The role includes patient intake, birth control education, room preparation, basic clinical tasks, and strict record-keeping while upholding confidentiality. We value diversity and community service within reproductive health care.

Qualifications

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience or equivalent.
  • Experience in reproductive rights is helpful.
  • Experience dealing with the public.
  • Comfortable learning ultrasound, AB lab and related tasks.
  • Must have a strong understanding of reproductive rights and Planned Parenthood goals.
  • Excellent organizational, communication and sound decision-making skills.
  • Commitment to efficiency and quality.
  • Comfort discussing sexuality, contraception, and pregnancy options.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct patient intake, including medical and social histories, and perform STI screenings and point-of-care testing.
  • Educate patients on birth control options and pregnancy-related services in a non-directive manner.
  • Ensure exam rooms are prepped and sanitized and assist with basic clinical tasks and lab work.
  • Provide excellent patient service aligned with Planned Parenthood’s values of respect, equity, and inclusion.
  • Accurately maintain patient records and documentation while upholding confidentiality and compliance standards.
  • Support the daily operations of the health center through cross-functional collaboration, flexibility, and accountability.

Snapshot of key accountabilities of the Medical Assistant:

  • Conduct patient intake, including medical and social histories, and perform STI screenings and point-of-care testing.

Experience/Education of the Medical Assistant:

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience or equivalent.
  • Medical care and reproductive rights experience helpful.
  • Experience in dealing with the public.
  • The ability to learn ultrasound, procedural assistance and AB lab as well as other skill enhancements at the discretion of the affiliate.
  • Must have a strong understanding of and personal commitment to reproductive rights and the goals and responsibilities of Planned Parenthood.
  • Excellent organizational, communication and sound decision-making skills.
  • Must have a commitment to efficiency and quality.
  • Must be comfortable when discussing sexuality, contraception, sexually transmitted diseases and pregnancy options.
  • Ability to recognize and function appropriately in sensitive situations.
  • Previous experience working with Microsoft Office suite is preferred.

Benefits and Compensation:

  • Hourly compensation range for Medical Assistant: Starting at $ 18.00/ hour, commensurate with experience and local market conditions.
  • Eligible for all applicable benefits effective the first of the month following 30 days from your hire date.
