Job summary

New York Cancer and Blood Specialists is seeking a Medical Assistant to support patient intake, vitals, and specimen collection at our Port Jefferson, NY location.

You will perform venipuncture, EKGs, and point-of-care tests, assist clinicians during exams, and ensure proper specimen handling and LIS/EMR documentation. This on-site position supports multiple NYCBS locations as needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Medical Assistant Certification preferred or required.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• At least 1 year of outpatient care or lab experience.
• Proficient in EMR/LIS systems (e.g., LABDAQ).

Responsibilities

• Manage patient intakes with accurate data, including vitals and history.
• Perform venipuncture, specimen collection, and rapid tests.
• Administer EKGs and point-of-care testing under supervision.
• Prepare exam rooms and assist providers during visits and procedures.
• Sterilize and maintain medical equipment for safety.
• Operate lab equipment and handle specimens per protocols.
• Run quality control and document results; report critical values.
• Document in LIS/EMR and coordinate with external labs.
• Communicate effectively with team, patients, and providers.
• Support multiple NYCBS locations as needed.
