Responsibilities

  • Maintain clean, stocked exam rooms while following infection control and HIPAA standards.
  • Document encounters and orders accurately to support quality care and reimbursement.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Medical Assistant is an integral member of the clinical care team, providing high-quality patient care and supporting providers in delivering exceptional, value-based primary care services. This position combines clinical and administrative responsibilities to ensure efficient patient flow, accurate documentation, and a positive patient experience. The Medical Assistant works collaboratively with providers, practice leadership, and front office staff to promote quality outcomes, operational excellence, and compassionate care for every patient.


WHAT YOU WILL DO


  • You prepare patients for examinations by obtaining vital signs, medical histories, completing medication reconciliation, and documenting clinical information accurately in the electronic health record (Athena and/or eClinicalWorks).

  • You assist providers during examinations, treatments, and minor office procedures while ensuring patient comfort, safety, and a positive clinical experience.

  • You administer medications, injections, immunizations, EKGs, point-of-care testing, and specimen collection in accordance with organizational policies and scope of practice.

  • You coordinate laboratory testing, referrals, prescription refill requests, and patient follow-up to promote continuity of care and timely patient communication.

  • You educate patients on medications, preventive care, treatment plans, and provider instructions while answering questions with professionalism, compassion, and empathy.

  • You maintain clean, organized, and fully stocked exam rooms while adhering to infection prevention, OSHA, HIPAA, and safety standards.

  • You accurately document patient encounters, clinical procedures, and provider orders to support quality care, regulatory compliance, and appropriate reimbursement.

  • You collaborate with providers, Patient Service Representatives, and clinic leadership to promote efficient patient flow, support value-based care initiatives, and deliver an exceptional patient experience.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE IN YOUR FIRST 90 DAYS

Within the first 90 days, the Medical Assistant has successfully completed onboarding and demonstrates the ability to perform all assigned clinical responsibilities independently while following established policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements. The Medical Assistant consistently prepares patients for visits, accurately obtains and documents vital signs and medical histories, assists providers with examinations and procedures, administers medications and injections within scope of practice, and maintains complete and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).


The Medical Assistant effectively manages patient flow, prepares and stocks exam rooms, maintains equipment and supplies, and supports efficient clinic operations with minimal supervision. They communicate professionally with patients, providers, and team members, demonstrate excellent customer service, protect patient confidentiality, and consistently adhere to HIPAA, OSHA, infection control, and safety standards.


By the end of the first 90 days, the Medical Assistant is recognized as a dependable, collaborative team member who consistently demonstrates accuracy, professionalism, accountability, and compassion. They contribute to a positive patient experience, proactively identify opportunities to improve workflow, support providers in delivering high-quality patient care, and help achieve the organization\'s clinical, operational, and patient satisfaction goals.
