Job summary

Mercy Medical Center is hiring a Medical Assistant I in Maryland. The role supports physicians with procedures, handles vital signs, and assists in exams. On-site training is provided to ensure competency with EHRs and clinical workflows.

Minimum education is a high school diploma or GED, with one year of MA or EMT-Paramedic experience preferred. The benefits package includes paid time off and a competitive salary range.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; experience preferred as MA or EMT-Paramedic.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English clearly.
  • Proficient in common software and clinical systems; able to learn Meditech/Epic.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team; strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and assist with office procedures.
  • Chaperone providers during patient examinations.
  • Take pre-op and post-op photos.
  • Maintain and transport surgical instruments to Central Sterile.
  • Process surgical specimens for Pathology.
  • Stock and prepare exam rooms; order supplies.
  • Complete FMLA and Disability forms.
  • Travel to satellite locations as needed.
  • Record vital signs and patient histories; update EHR.
  • Administer injections, blood draws, and vaccines as directed.
  • Perform basic laboratory tests and specimen collection.
  • Provide patient education as directed by providers.

Responsibilities

The Medical Assistant I demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development appropriate to the ages of patients served by their department. Additionally, the MAI demonstrates competency in applying these principles when providing individualized care to specific patients. Assists the MD/NP/PA in performing procedures. Operates, maintains and calibrates all equipment.

  • Setting up and assisting with office procedures
  • Chaperone providers during patient examination
  • Taking pre‑op and post‑op photos of patients
  • Maintaining surgical instruments and transporting instruments to Central Sterile (CSS)
  • Processing surgical specimens and transporting them to Pathology
  • Maintaining and stocking exam rooms
  • ordering clinical supplies
  • Completing FMLA and Disability forms
  • Cleaning and resetting exam rooms
  • Travel to satellite locations as needed
  • Take patient vital signs, record medical histories, and update electronic health records (EHR).
  • Administer injections, blood draws, and immunizations as directed by healthcare providers. (on‑site training provided)
  • Perform basic laboratory tests, including specimen collection and processing.
  • Provide patient education and instructions as directed by healthcare providers.

  • Education and Work Experience:
    • High School Diploma or GED
    • A minimum of one year experience is preferred as a Medical Assistant or EMT‑Paramedic

    • Must possess the ability to effectively communicate and deal tactfully with other personnel, visitors, patients, physicians, customers, and the general public.
    • Must be flexible, have personal integrity, and the ability to function effectively as a team with other employees.
    • Must be able to follow written and oral instructions.
