Job summary

Mercy Medical Center in Columbia, MD is hiring a Medical Assistant I to support physicians and patients in a fast-paced hospital setting. The role involves assisting with procedures, vital signs, injections, lab work, and EHR updates, with on-site training provided.

Requires a High School Diploma or GED and at least one year of MA/EMT-Paramedic experience; CPR preferred. Travel to satellite offices may be required. Competitive benefits and a $1,500 sign-on bonus for new MA/MOS hires are offered.

Responsibilities

• Set up and assist with office procedures.
• Chaperone providers during patient examination.

• Maintain surgical instruments and transport to Central Sterile (CSS).
• Process surgical specimens and transport to Pathology.
• Maintain and stock exam rooms.
• Order clinical supplies.
• Complete FMLA and Disability forms.
• Clean and reset exam rooms.
• Travel to satellite locations as needed.
• Take patient vital signs and histories; update EHR.
• Administer injections, blood draws, and immunizations with on-site training.
• Perform basic lab tests and specimen processing.
• Provide patient education as directed.

Responsibilities

The Medical Assistant I demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development appropriate to the ages of patients served by their department. Additionally, the MAI demonstrates competency in applying these principles when providing individualized care to specific patients. Assists the MD/NP/PA in performing procedures. Operates, maintains and calibrates all equipment.

The following duties fall under the responsibility of the Medical Assistant but are not limited to:

• Setting up and assisting with office procedures

• Taking pre-op and post-op photos of patients
• Maintaining surgical instruments and transporting instruments to Central Sterile (CSS)
• Processing surgical specimens and transporting them to Pathology
• Maintaining and stocking exam rooms

• Completing FMLA and Disability forms
• Cleaning and resetting exam rooms
• Travel to satellite locations as needed
• Take patient vital signs, record medical histories, and update electronic health records (EHR).
• Administer injections, blood draws, and immunizations as directed by healthcare providers. (on-site training provided)
• Perform basic laboratory tests, including specimen collection and processing.
• Provide patient education and instructions as directed by healthcare providers.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

• Education and Work Experience:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • A minimum of one year experience is preferred as a Medical Assistant or EMT-Paramedic
