Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • Current Medical Assistant certification/registration required by state regulations.
  • Current BLS certification required.
  • Minimum 1 year of clinical Medical Assistant experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assist healthcare providers with patient exams, treatments, and procedures.
  • Document vital signs, medical histories, and health information.
  • Prepare examination and treatment areas; maintain sanitation and infection control.
  • Perform specimen collection and point‑of‑care testing as allowed by scope of practice.
  • Administer medications and treatments per state regulations and facility policies.
  • Maintain accurate medical records in EHR and/or paper systems.
  • Schedule patient appointments and coordinate healthcare services.
  • Stock supplies and manage equipment and pharmaceuticals.
  • Support intake screenings and chronic care clinics.
  • Respond to medical emergencies and assist staff as needed.
  • Adhere to correctional facility security procedures and HIPAA regulations.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, mental health professionals, and correctional staff.
  • Perform other duties to support facility healthcare operations.

Job Title: Medical Assistant (MA)

Overview

The Medical Assistant (MA) provides clinical and administrative support services within a correctional healthcare environment. Working under the direction of licensed nursing staff and healthcare providers, the Medical Assistant assists in delivering quality patient care to an incarcerated population while maintaining safety, security, and confidentiality standards. The ideal candidate demonstrates professionalism, strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a structured and secure environment.


What you will be doing:


  • Assist healthcare providers with patient examinations, treatments, and procedures.

  • Obtain and document patient vital signs, medical histories, and health information.

  • Prepare examination and treatment areas and ensure proper sanitation and infection control practices.

  • Perform specimen collection, point-of-care testing, and other clinical procedures within scope of practice.

  • Administer medications and treatments as permitted by state regulations and facility policies.

  • Maintain accurate and timely medical records in electronic and/or paper health record systems.

  • Schedule patient appointments and coordinate healthcare services as directed.

  • Monitor and stock medical supplies, equipment, and pharmaceuticals.

  • Assist with intake screenings, health assessments, and chronic care clinics.

  • Respond appropriately to medical emergencies and assist healthcare staff during emergency situations.

  • Adhere to all correctional facility security procedures and protocols.

  • Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and facility regulations.

  • Collaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, mental health professionals, correctional officers, and other interdisciplinary team members.

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support facility healthcare operations.


What you must have:


  • High school diploma or GED.

  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program.

  • Current Medical Assistant certification or registration as required by state regulations.

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

  • Minimum one (1) year of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant.
