Berks Counseling Center is seeking a Medical Assistant to serve as a liaison between patients and on-site/community providers, ensuring access to coordinated primary and behavioral health care. You will collect vital signs and enroll patients into onsite integrated care services.

You will also perform prior authorization, communicate with pharmacies and providers to coordinate care, and assist with referrals and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Medical Assistant degree or training and High School / GED.
• Basic Life Support certified.
• One year training or experience in medical office with mental health or substance use treatment.
• Bilingual ability in English and Spanish preferred.
• Community Health Worker certification as applicable.

Responsabilités

• Prepare patients for physician evaluation by taking vital signs, height and weight, and recording medical history.
• Greet patients politely and provide instructions for visits.
• Enter new patient demographics and update information in the system for accurate records and billing.
• Review forms for accuracy and completeness per office policies.
• Educate patients on medications, home care, and treatment procedures; coordinate with licensed staff as needed.
• Collect laboratory specimens and prepare them for testing.

Summary of job:

As a Medical Assistant, you will be a liaison between the patients and on-site/community providers to assure access to coordinated primary and behavioral health care. You will be responsible for physical health screenings, including collection of health vitals and enrollment into onsite integrated care services. You will also perform prior authorization, communication with pharmacies and community providers to ensure collaboration and coordination of care, referrals to specialists, and other duties as assigned.

You will…

• Prepare patients for physician evaluation by taking vital signs; height and weight; reviewing and/or recording medical history; interviewing patients and confirming purpose of visit.
• Greet patients in polite, prompt, helpful manner and provides any necessary instructions/directions.
• Obtain and enter new patient demographics; update patient information, as necessary, in the computer system to maintain accuracy of medical records and for billing purposes.
• Review all forms for accuracy and completion according to office policies prior to accepting.
• Educate patients by providing medication and home care instructions; explain treatment procedures, medications, diets and physicians’ instructions to patients; and ask for assistance from licensed staff as appropriate.
• Collect laboratory specimens, log the specimens, and prepare them for testing.

Requirements

To qualify for the position, you will need…

• Medical Assistant Degree or training and High School / GED
• Basic Life Support certified
• Ability to work 40 hours per week within agency hours of operation, which are 8am-8pm Mon-Thurs, 8am-4pm Friday with Saturday hours, when applicable.

Preferred candidates will HAVE…

• CCMA or MA certification
• One (1) year training or experience relevant to working in a medical office with mental health or substance use treatment.
• Bilingual ability in English and Spanish
• Community Health Workers certification
• Knowledge of or experience with trauma-informed approaches.

Physical Requirements:

• VISUAL: Must be able to read and interpret documents and read and analyze data on a computer screen for prolonged periods.
• COMMUNICATING: Must be able to communicate with clients, vendors, and coworkers.
• MOBILITY: Must have mobility to move about the agency. Must have mobility to move about the community.
• PHYSICAL EFFORT: Must be able to carry up to 10 pounds.
• OTHER: Must be able to write, type and use technology.
