Job summary

Maricopa County is seeking a Medical Assistant to join the Correctional Health Services team, providing front and back-office support, venipuncture, EHR documentation, and patient care within a jail setting. CPR/First Aid readiness and continuous care are emphasized in this role.

The position requires a Medical Assistant Certificate, RMA certification, one year of relevant experience, and a high school diploma or GED. Candidates must pass background checks and be able to work varied shifts.

Qualifications

• One year of experience as a medical assistant, performing front and back-office Medical Assistant duties, including experience with venipuncture, electronic health records, phlebotomy, patient vitals, and EKGs
• Medical Assistant Certificate of Completion from an accredited healthcare training program
• Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification from the American Medical Technologists
• High school diploma or GED

Responsibilities

• Performs duties within the medical assistant scope of practice, under the direct supervision of a physician, mid-level provider, or Nurse Manager, to ensure quality patient care
• Completes required documentation in the electronic health record or other modality
• Verifies dental, behavioral, and medical health information with outside healthcare organizations
• Conducts office duties, including copying, filing, scanning, scheduling, and document preparation
• Responds to and directs clinical calls effectively and professionally in-person, telephonically, and online
• Maintains confidentiality of all information in all communication and interactions

We Require

Working Conditions

• Ability to work inside a jail and stand, walk, and bend for extended periods of time throughout the shift while accurately handling a high volume of work, communicating with a culturally diverse patient population, and adapting to frequent changes, interruptions, and unscheduled tasks
• Position includes day or night shift work, which may include weekends and holidays
• Travel or floating to various clinical locations is required within a 5-mile radius
• Must be able to respond to emergencies
• Must maintain CPR and First Aid certification and get on the floor to perform CPR/chest compressions, push medical equipment, climb stairs, and lift patients on a gurney
• Must be able to pass a fingerprint background check and maintain MCSO jail access
