Job summary

Maricopa County is seeking a Medical Assistant to join the Correctional Health team. You will provide front and back-office support, perform venipuncture, vitals, phlebotomy, and EKGs, and maintain electronic health records in a secure, jail-based clinical setting.

The role requires a Medical Assistant Certificate and RMA, with at least one year of experience, and offers opportunities within a mission-driven health care program for incarcerated patients.

Qualifications

• One year of experience as a medical assistant performing front and back-office duties including venipuncture, EHRs, phlebotomy, vitals, and EKGs.
• Medical Assistant Certificate of Completion from an accredited healthcare training program.
• Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification from the American Medical Technologists.
• High school diploma or GED.

Responsibilities

• Performs duties within the medical assistant scope of practice under supervision to ensure quality patient care.
• Completes required documentation in the electronic health record or other modality.
• Verifies dental, behavioral, and medical health information with outside healthcare organizations.
• Conducts office duties including copying, filing, scanning, scheduling, and document preparation.
• Responds to and directs clinical calls effectively and professionally in-person, telephonically, and online.
• Maintains confidentiality of all information in all communication and interactions.

$19.00 - $29.25 hourly

Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification. This position is eligible for overtime compensation for all hours worked over 40 in the designated workweek.

Shift Differential Pay

• An additional $1.25 per hour for hours worked between 3:00pm - 11:00pm
• An additional $2.00 per hour for hours worked between 11:00pm - 7:00am

We Require

• One year of experience as a medical assistant, performing front and back-office Medical Assistant duties, including experience with venipuncture, electronic health records, phlebotomy, patient vitals, and EKGs
• Medical Assistant Certificate of Completion from an accredited healthcare training program
• Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification from the American Medical Technologists
• High school diploma or GED

Job Contributions

• Performs duties within the medical assistant scope of practice, under the direct supervision of a physician, mid-level provider, or Nurse Manager, to ensure quality patient care
• Completes required documentation in the electronic health record or other modality
• Verifies dental, behavioral, and medical health information with outside healthcare organizations
• Conducts office duties, including copying, filing, scanning, scheduling, and document preparation
• Responds to and directs clinical calls effectively and professionally in-person, telephonically, and online

Working Conditions

• Ability to work inside a jail and stand, walk, and bend for extended periods of time throughout the shift while accurately handling a high volume of work, communicating with a culturally diverse patient population, and adapting to frequent changes, interruptions, and unscheduled tasks
• Position includes day or night shift work, which may include weekends and holidays
• Travel or floating to various clinical locations is required within a 5-mile radius
• Must be able to respond to emergencies
• Must maintain CPR and First Aid certification and get on the floor to perform CPR/chest compressions, push medical equipment, climb stairs, and lift patients on a gurney
• Must be able to pass a fingerprint background check and maintain MCSO jail access
