Job summary

Forefront Dermatology is seeking a Medical Assistant in Ottumwa, IA to support the dermatologist during visits and maintain a welcoming, efficient clinic environment.

You will room patients, scribe for the dermatologist, perform post-op wound care, draw blood, and assist with biopsies and other procedures. Strong organizational and communication skills required; travel to other clinics may be needed.

Qualifications

• 1+ years of recent experience in a medical office preferred.
• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or DERM Tech a plus; current certifications required.
• Must keep state certifications, licenses and registrations current.
• Willing to travel to other clinic locations as needed.
• Proficient with computers, including Microsoft Office and EMR systems.
• Strong organizational and communication skills; ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Room patients and document vital information.
• Scribe for the dermatologist during visits.
• Provide post-op wound care to patients.
• Draw blood and remove sutures as needed.
• Clean and stock exam rooms and schedule patient appointments.
• Assist dermatologist with procedures (biopsies, Mohs, injections, etc.).

Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

• Rooming patients and documents all vital information
• Scribing information for the dermatologist
• Providing post op wound care to patients
• Drawing blood and suture removal
• Cleaning and stocking the exam rooms
• Scheduling patient appointments

Assisting the dermatologist with procedures such as:

• Surgical photographs
• Biopsies – punch, DIF and shave
• Excisions
• Electrodessication and curettage
• I&D
• Mohs micrographic skin cancer surgery
• Phototherapy
• Injections
• Koh preps
• Trichograms
• Tzank preps
• Dermabrasion
• Patch testing
• Blue light

Qualifications

Education:

Minimum post high-school education in a medical support field: Certified Medical Assistant, Licensed Practical Nurse, or Registered Nurse (Non-Certified Medical Assistants will need to complete the Forefront Derm Tech certification program within the prescribed time period and maintain certification upon expiration).

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• 1+ years of recent experience in a medical office in a similar capacity is preferred
• Certified Medical Assistant, DERM Tech a plus
• Must keep current on all state certifications, licenses and/or registrations to continue employment
• Must be willing to travel to other clinic locations as needed
• Proficiency with computers including Microsoft Office and Electronic Medical Record systems
• Must possess organizational and communication skills
• Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with staff, clients, and visitors
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize appropriately, and work well both individually and as part of a team
