Job summary

Central Indiana Orthopedics in Muncie, IN is seeking a Medical Assistant to support providers during examinations, document histories, and assist with minor procedures.

You will manage EMR entries, coordinate imaging, educate patients on perioperative care, and assist with scheduling while upholding HIPAA and OSHA standards. High school diploma and CMA/RMA preferred; orthopedic experience is a plus.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required or; CMA/RMA preferred.
  • Completion of a certified Medical Assistant program is preferred.
  • Experience in a clinical setting, orthopedic or surgical exposure is a plus.
  • Proficiency in EMR systems and basic computer applications.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare exam rooms and assist with patient examinations.
  • Record medical histories, vital signs, and chief complaints in EMR.
  • Apply/remove orthopedic devices under supervision.
  • Provide preoperative/postoperative education and medication instructions.
  • Assist with in-office imaging coordination and follow-up.
  • Maintain clean, stocked exam rooms and clinical areas.
  • Perform scheduling, phone support, and records management.
  • Ensure HIPAA and OSHA compliance.
  • Support surgical scheduling and preoperative prep as needed.

Job description

Founded in 1950, Central Indiana Orthopedics (CIO) is an independent orthopedic practice in central Indiana providing compassionate, expert care for bone, joint and muscle conditions. CIO offers comprehensive orthopedic services, including joint replacement and revision, podiatry, spine and interventional pain management, sports medicine, and work‑related injury care. Patients also have access to imaging, physical therapy, outpatient surgery and walk‑in clinics for same‑day orthopedic care. Responsibilities
  • Prepare exam rooms and assist providers with patient examinations and minor procedures.
  • Record patient medical histories, vital signs, and chief complaints accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Apply and remove orthopedic devices such as splints, braces, and casts under provider supervision.
  • Provide patient education on preoperative and postoperative care, and medication instructions.
  • Assist with in‑office imaging coordination (e.g., X‑rays, MRIs) and ensure timely follow‑up.
  • Maintain clean and well‑stocked exam rooms and clinical areas.
  • Perform administrative duties including scheduling appointments, answering phones, and managing patient records.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA and OSHA regulations.
  • Support surgical scheduling and pre‑operative preparation as needed.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of a certified Medical Assistant program (CMA, RMA, or equivalent) preferred.
  • Minimum of 2‑3 years of experience in a clinical setting; orthopedic or surgical specialty experience is a plus.
  • Proficiency in EMR systems and basic computer applications.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast‑paced environment with attention to detail.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with orthopedic‑specific EMR systems (e.g., Athenahealth, NextGen, Epic).
  • Familiarity with medical terminology, procedures, and durable medical equipment (DME).
  • Bilingual (Spanish, Mandarin, etc.) is a plus.
Compensation

USD $16.00/Hr. - USD $22.00/Hr.
