Hematology and Oncology practice in the Sherman Oaks is seeking an experienced Medical Assistant to perform both front and back office duties in a professional, organized and ethical manner and work closely with the physician in the clinical setting.
Major Duties/Responsibilities:
- Greeting patients with a friendly, compassionate and professional demeanor
- Utilizing a desktop or laptop computer for data entry and daily office functions
- Scheduling appointments (i.e. new patient, follow-up, chemotherapy, outside providers)
- Answering phones / Scanning / Faxing / Emailing
- Entering patient demographic and insurance information accurately
- Verifying patient insurance and eligibility
- Checking patients in at time of arrival
- Collecting co‑payments/deductibles/account balances
- Triage/Interview patients
- Vital signs, injections, venipunctures, gather specimens and send to lab for processing timely
- Document chief complaint/medical history/update medication list
- Request/Gather all necessary data for each patient medical record (i.e. hospital / referring physician office / radiology and/or lab records)
- Maintain a clean/organized work area including front office/triage area/examination/treatment rooms
- Prepare treatment rooms before each examination
- Properly drape patients if necessary
- Sterilize instruments and maintain all medical equipment
- Assist the physician with procedures and treatments
- Review physician orders/monitor prescriptions/request authorizations
- Stock office/medical supplies and request supply orders timely based on inventory needs
- Must be a team player, passionate about patient care, self‑motivated with the ability to work in a fast‑paced environment
- Communicate efficiently with patients, physicians and other healthcare staff
- Other duties as directed by the physician and/or office manager
- Obtain insurance authorizations for all required exams and document approvals
- Obtain information on the patient's eligibility status with the insurance company to ensure proper coverage and payment for services
- Obtain patients' hospitalization information and enter necessary data into computer system
Required Experience / Job Requirements:
- 3 years and above of medical specialty practice experience in BOTH front and back office duties
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Certified Medical Assistant
- CPR Certified
- Bilingual is preferred
- Previous Hematology and Oncology experience is strongly preferred
- Strong Computer Knowledge (i.e. EMR, Word, Excel)
