Job summary

South Sunflower is seeking a Medical Assistant to join our patient-centered clinical team. You will escort patients, take vital signs, and document health histories while supporting gynecologic and prenatal care.

Prepare exam rooms, collect specimens, and assist with procedures under provider supervision. The role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced outpatient setting.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; certification preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a medical setting, ideally in gynecology or prenatal care.
  • Current BLS certification or ability to obtain within designated timeframe.

Responsibilities

  • Escort patients to examination rooms and obtain vital signs.
  • Perform patient intake and document chief complaints, health history updates, medications, allergies, and reasons for visits.
  • Assist providers with gynecologic exams and prenatal visits.
  • Prepare patients for pelvic exams, Pap smears, colposcopies, biopsies, IUD insertions/removals, and other procedures.
  • Collect laboratory specimens following clinic protocols.
  • Prepare exam rooms, equipment, and supplies for patient visits and procedures.
  • Sterilize and maintain medical instruments and equipment.
  • Monitor patients during and after procedures.
  • Schedule appointments, tests, referrals, and follow-ups.
  • Verify insurance information and obtain necessary authorizations.
  • Maintain EMR and manage incoming calls.

Medical Assistant

Key Responsibilities:
  • Escort patients to examination rooms and obtain vital signs

  • Prepare patients for pelvic exams, Pap smears, colposcopies, biopsies, IUD insertions/removals, and other office procedures

  • Prepare exam rooms, equipment, and supplies for patient visits and procedures
  • Clean, sterilize, and maintain medical instruments and equipment
  • Assist with patient monitoring during and after procedures
  • Schedule appointments, diagnostic testing, referrals, and follow-up visits
  • Verify insurance information and obtain necessary authorizations
  • Maintain Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and manage incoming calls
Skills and Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a certified Medical Assistant program preferred
  • Proven experience in a clinical setting, particularly in gynecology or prenatal care
  • Knowledge of medical procedures, laboratory specimen collection, and sterilization techniques
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency with EMR systems and scheduling software
  • Certification in CPR and Basic Life Support (BLS) is preferred

Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • At least 1 year of experience in the medical field.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required or obtained within designated timeframe.
  • Minimum one (1) year experience in an outpatient clinic preferred.
  • Women's health, OB/GYN, or prenatal care experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) systems preferred.
  • Knowledge of prenatal and women's health terminology and procedures.
  • Ability to obtain accurate patient histories and clinical information.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and compassion with patients and families.
  • Knowledge of infection prevention and safety practices.
  • Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical record systems and basic computer applications.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to assist patients with mobility as needed.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient for clinical procedures and computer work.
