Job summary

Mercyhealth is seeking a Medical Assistant to provide clinical and administrative support in a fast-paced clinic. You will prepare patients for visits, collect information, assist with examinations, and help with lab procedures and screenings.

You will also coordinate referrals, schedule appointments, greet patients, and maintain accurate records. The ideal candidate has completed an ABHES/CAAHEP-accredited medical assistant program, with CPR/BLS certification within 90 days and

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an ABHES/CAAHEP-accredited medical assistant program or similarly accredited program.
  • Clinical rotation experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Rooms patients and collects assessment data for transport to the appropriate clinician.
  • Assists in examinations, treatments and clinic procedures.
  • Assists with laboratory procedures and screening tests.
  • Answers calls, triage or directs inquiries to the right personnel.
  • Schedules appointments and updates the computerized scheduler.
  • Makes reminder calls to patients.
  • Greet and direct patients, visitors and salespeople.
  • Registers patients and keeps records up to date.
  • Updates patient charts and changes in the computer system.
  • Coordinates referrals with insurance and other physician offices.
  • Collects payments and issues receipts when applicable.
  • Prepares and maintains patient charts and keeps supplies stocked.

Job description

OVERVIEW

Provides clinical and administrative support by preparing patients for visits, collecting assessment information, and assisting with examinations, treatments, laboratory procedures, and screenings. Coordinates appointments and referrals, maintains accurate patient records, responds to calls and inquiries, and helps ensure a welcoming and efficient clinic experience.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Rooms patients, collects assessment data and prepares patient according to specific need.
  • Assists in examination, treatment and other clinic procedures.
  • Assists with laboratory procedures, screening tests and QI projects.
  • Answers telephone and either responds to inquiry, directs caller to appropriate personnel, or initiates a triage slip for response by medical personnel.
  • Schedules appointments and enters appointment date and time into computerized scheduler.
  • Conducts reminder calls to all patients.
  • Greet and directs patients, salespeople, and visitors.
  • Registers patients by verifying that patient's record is up to date and accurate.
  • Makes appropriate changes in computer system and on patient's chart.
  • Coordinates referrals for patients through insurance and other physician offices.
  • Collects payment from patients and issues receipt where applicable.
  • Prepares and maintains patient charts.
  • Maintains and orders supplies.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Graduate of a medical assistant program accredited by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), or graduate of a medical assistant program in a post secondary school or college that has institutional accreditation by a regional accrediting commissionor by a national accrediting organization approved by the U.S. Department of Education,or a graduate of an educational program accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA), such as the National Healthcareer Association (NHA). Experience in a program with a clinical rotationpreferred.

CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE
  • Approved CPR or BLS certification required within 90 days.
  • Medication injection training and pharmacology is a required competency to perform medication administration.
