Description
The Medical Assistant plays a vital role in supporting healthcare providers by performing both clinical and administrative duties that contribute to the delivery of high-quality patient care. This position is responsible for ensuring efficient clinic operations, maintaining accurate medical documentation, and providing exceptional patient service in a fast-paced healthcare environment. The Medical Assistant must demonstrate professionalism, compassion, strong communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with providers and other members of the healthcare team. Key responsibilities include:
- Prepare patients for examinations, procedures, and treatments by obtaining and documenting vital signs, medical histories, current medications, allergies, and chief complaints.
- Assist healthcare providers during patient examinations, procedures, and treatments.
- Administer medications, injections, immunizations, and vaccines as directed by the provider and within the Medical Assistant scope of practice.
- Perform phlebotomy, specimen collection, point-of-care testing, electrocardiograms (EKGs), and other clinical procedures as assigned.
- Prepare, clean, and stock examination rooms, ensuring equipment and supplies are available and functioning properly.
- Maintain infection prevention and control standards while following OSHA and clinic safety protocols.
- Accurately document patient care and clinical information in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and sit for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds.
- Manual dexterity is sufficient to perform clinical procedures and operate medical equipment.
- Ability to work in a clinical environment with potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens and infectious diseases while utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Medical Assistant diploma required.
- Medical Assistant Certification required within one (1) year of employment.
- Proficiency in phlebotomy and specimen collection.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.
- Experience with Athenahealth is highly preferred.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, patient-focused, team-oriented environment.
- Ability to stand for extended periods, bend, and occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
- Reliable transportation is required, as occasional travel to other clinic locations may be necessary based on business and operational needs.
Non-Certified Candidates:
- Employees hired without certification are required to obtain an approved Medical Assistant certification, at their own expense, within one (1) year of their hire date.
- Failure to obtain the required certification within the specified timeframe may affect continued employment in the Medical Assistant role.
