Job summary

Planned Parenthood of Maryland invites a motivated Medical Assistant to join the Owings Mills clinic. You will support clinicians during exams, educate patients on reproductive health options, and help coordinate front and back-office operations to ensure a smooth visit for every patient.

Strong customer service, time management, and communication skills are essential, with bilingual English/Spanish a plus. CMA credential is preferred, and experience with Epic EMR is valued.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and graduation from an accredited medical assistant program.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in an outpatient clinical setting OR 2 years of experience performing front/back office MA duties in a healthcare setting.
• Preferred CMA credential, ultrasound experience, and a working knowledge of Epic EMR.

Responsibilities

• Empower through patient education with non-directive counseling on contraceptive options, pregnancy, and STI risks.
• Assist medical providers during examinations and procedures while following SOPs and guidelines.
• Serve as a welcoming, service-oriented guide for patients, ensuring informed consent and answering questions about procedures, labs, and medications.
• Handle front and back-office tasks, verify insurance for next-day appointments, and navigate Epic EMR.

Planned Parenthood of Maryland (PPM) is seeking an empathetic and detail-oriented Medical Assistant to join our Owings Mills clinic. We need a dedicated clinical support professional who is passionate about patient education and delivering high-quality, non-judgmental care. Inside the Role

As a Medical Assistant at PPM, you will perform the essential clinical and administrative support tasks necessary for efficient center operations. You will be a vital part of the patient experience, guiding clients through their visit, assisting providers during exams, and ensuring every individual feels respected and informed about their reproductive health choices.

Your Day-to-Day Impact

• Empower through education: Provide empathetic, non-directive counseling to clients, offering vital information on contraceptive options, pregnancy, and STI risks consistent with each patient’s value system.
• Support clinical excellence: Assist our medical providers during examinations and procedures, ensuring strict adherence to PPM’s Standard Operating Procedures and Medical Standards and Guidelines.
• Champion the patient experience: Act as a welcoming, service-oriented guide for patients, ensuring informed consent is obtained and answering questions regarding procedures, lab tests, and medications.
• Drive daily operations: Seamlessly manage front and back-office tasks, from greeting clients and verifying insurance for next-day appointments to confidently navigating our Epic electronic medical records (EMR) system.

What You Need to Succeed

• High school diploma or GED and graduation from an accredited medical assistant program.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in an outpatient clinical setting OR 2 years of experience performing front/back office MA duties in a healthcare setting.
• Excellent customer service, time management, and communication skills, with the ability to handle sensitive patient interactions without judgment.
• Preferred: Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential, ultrasound experience, and a working knowledge of Epic EMR.
• Bonus: Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish is a huge plus!

This position is subject to CBA governed terms and conditions via our partner SEIU 1199.

MA Level I: $18.50-$20.29/hour

Pay rate and qualifications determined by Clinical Operations Leadership and HR.
