Gastroenterology Associates, PC is seeking a full-time Medical Assistant to join our Gainesville, VA practice. The role involves clerical tasks with patient interaction via phone, specimen collection, health history intake, and assisting physicians during visits and emergencies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Previous experience as Medical Assistant required.
• Basic Life Support certification required.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology preferred.
• Ability to perform mathematical calculations.

Responsibilities

• Perform clerical tasks and some patient interaction over the phone.
• Collect specimens for laboratory analysis.
• Obtain and record health history of patients.
• Assist physician during office visits and emergencies.
• Manage prescriptions and referrals as directed.
• Answer patient questions and communicate test results.
• Prepare exam rooms and restock supplies.
• Phlebotomy and administration of medications as directed.
• Schedule office visits, procedures, labs, x-rays, and hospital admissions.

Refer a friend who’d be a great fit for One GI and earn a special bonus when they join the team!What you will do:This position will be mostly clerical work with some patient interaction via phone only.Collect specimens for laboratory analysis, as applicable.Obtain, verify, and record health history of patients.Assist the physician with office visits. Must be able to assist physician in an emergency.Manage patient prescriptions as directed by physician.Manage referrals as directed by physicianAnswer patient questions. Notify patients of test resultsReview procedure reports to ensure patients have hospital orders and needed clearances have been received.Escort patients to exam rooms and/or throughout the office as needed.Adhere to infection control/safety guidelines.Prepare examination rooms to include cleaning and restocking of supplies.Assist with dressing and undressing of patients as needed.Administer intramuscular and subcutaneous medications as directed by physician (dosage must be verified).Perform phlebotomy for lab work and complete required forms.*Assist with scheduling office visits, procedures, laboratory tests, x-rays, outpatient testing, hospital admissions and appointments as necessary.What you bring:High school diploma or equivalent required.Previous experience working as a Medical Assistant required.Previous experience working in a medical office environment preferred.Basic Life Support Certification Required.Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology required.Ability to perform mathematical calculations.
