Summary
Functions as part of the clinical team providing clinical care under the direction of an LPN, RN, or provider. Assists with administrative, clinical, and clerical duties, including taking patient histories, scheduling appointments, responding to patient communications, and rooming patients.
Job Duties
- Prepare patients and equipment for exams and procedures and maintain exam rooms and clinical areas.
- Perform medical history collection and medication refill per protocol.
- Collect and prepare lab specimens and requisitions accurately; schedule and obtain authorizations for referrals and procedures.
- Identify patient risks and communicate them to licensed nurse or provider.
- Adhere to clerical, clinical, and EMR workflows.
- Provide front‑office support, greet patients, and deliver excellent customer service in‑person and over the phone.
- Collect co‑payments, schedule appointments, update missing patient demographics, and obtain referrals and pre‑certifications.
- Apply patient‑centered care concepts in all activities.
Minimum Qualifications
- Specialized Diploma as a Medical Assistant.
- Ability to accept and adapt to constant change within a healthcare setting.
- Ability to take initiative and function independently as well as collaboratively.
- Excellent computer skills including EMR, word processing, and Excel.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support – State of Pennsylvania within 30 days.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree from a Medical Assistant Program.
- Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) – NHA, or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) – AAMA, or Clinical Medical Assistant Certification (CMAC) – AMCA, or Medical Assistant Certified (MAC) – AMCA, or National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) – NCTT, or National Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) – NAHP, or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) – AMT, all State of Pennsylvania.
Physical Demands
Lift and carry up to 25 lbs. Frequent sitting and standing, frequent keyboard use. Patient care providers may be required to kneel, bend, squat, and perform CPR.
