Job description

The Medical Assistant provides clinical and administrative support to psychiatric medical providers and the interdisciplinary care team serving a forensic mental health population. This role manages an assigned caseload, coordinates medical services, supports continuity of care, and maintains accurate clinical documentation while working under the supervivion of a licensed provider.

This position serves a forensic mental health population and requires professionalism, strong boundaries, and the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage an assigned caseload and assist with coordination of ongoing medical services
• Coordinate appointments with multiple healthcare providers to support continuity of care
• Assist with care coordination for clients with multiple medical and mental health comorbidities
• Collect patient health data and perform basic intake and health screenings
• Maintain accurate patient records in both paper charts and the (EHR)
• Administer medications and injections as orderd by the provider and according to clinical protocols
• Order laboratory tests and track results as directed by providers
• Provide patient education related to medications, treatments, and general health management
• Provide basic firstr aid and maintain current CPR certification
• Communicate effectively with psychiatric physicians and interdisciplinary care teammembers
• Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to support coordinated patient care
• Assist with prior authorizations and insurance documentation when needed
• Delegate appropriate non - clinical tasks to direct care staff as directed by the clinical team
• Maintain confidentiality and follow organizational policies and procedures

Qualifications

• Medical Assistant certification preferred or relevant clinical experience
• Experience in behavioral health or forensic populatins preferred
• Knowledge of Electronic Health systems
• Strong documentation, organizational, and time management skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a clinical environment
