Job summary

Baptist Health Urgent Care Bardstown is seeking a Full-Time Medical Assistant to provide direct patient care and clinical support in a busy outpatient clinic.

You will take vital signs, assist with procedures, document patient histories, and help manage the EPIC electronic health record while coordinating appointments and tests to ensure smooth patient flow.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Graduates of accredited Medical Assistant programs with hands-on patient experience are encouraged to apply.
• Clinical competency assessment and MA orientation are required on hire.

Responsibilities

• Check in patients and obtain vital signs.
• Document patient history and medications.
• Perform clinical procedures (e.g., EKGs, phlebotomy, injections).
• Coordinate with pharmacies, insurers, and physicians.
• Manage EPIC and other EMR processes to support patient care.
• Assist with scheduling, prior authorizations, and coordinating tests.

Summary

The Medical Assistant provides direct patient care and clinical support within an outpatient clinic. Responsibilities include obtaining vital signs, reconciling medications, collecting patient history, and facilitating patient flow. Additional duties involve managing the electronic health record (EPIC), scheduling appointments, processing medication requests, handling prior authorizations, and coordinating tests and procedures. Upon successful completion of clinical competency, the role may also require performing EKGs, lab tests, injections, and/or phlebotomy. Strong communication and organizational skills are essential to ensure efficient patient care and support for providers.

The MA will be responsible for the coordination of direct patient care activities and providing clinical support to providers within one of our clinical practices.

Duties include:

• Check in patients, obtaining vital signs & medication reconciliation
• Patient medical history information
• Navigating electronic health record system (EPIC)

Minimum Requirements:

• High School Diploma or General Education Equivalency
• 1+ year(s) of experience as a Medical Assistant in a medical office, clinic or similar setting required. Experience must include direct, hands-on patient care in a clinical setting, such as obtaining vital signs, documenting patient history and medications, and performing clinical procedures (e.g. EKG’s, phlebotomy, administering injections or vaccines).
• Or Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant training program, that includes hands on patient experience as part of the curriculum, required.
• Upon hire, all Medical Assistants will undergo a clinical competency assessment and must successfully complete MA orientation. Those who do not meet the required standards will be enrolled in the Medical Assistant Trainee Program for further development and evaluation.
• Basic computer skills, experience with EMR System a plus.
• Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association within 90 days of hire.
• BAT and DOT certifications required for Medical Assistants in Occupational Medicine within 90 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications for a Certified Medical Assistant:

• Current Medical Assistant Certification from AAMA, AMT, NAHP, NCCT, or AAMP.
• Or graduate of an accredited LPN or RN program with current unrestricted licensure.
• Upon hire, all Medical Assistants will undergo a clinical competency assessment and must successfully complete MA orientation. Those who do not meet the required standards will be enrolled in the Medical Assistant Trainee Program for further development and evaluation.
