Job summary

American Family Care is seeking a Medical Assistant for our Bakersfield outpatient clinic. The role supports licensed providers, performs vitals, patient prep, and explains procedures during visits, with emphasis on accuracy and compassionate care.

You will handle lab work, specimen collection, phlebotomy tasks if trained, maintain rooms and documentation, and cross-train for front desk as needed. Shifts include days, evenings, and weekends on a part-time schedule.

Qualifications

• Medical Assistant Certificate required.
• BLS certification required.
• Available to work day/night shifts, weekdays/weekends.
• Phlebotomy experience preferred.
• Bilingual in Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

Our state-of-the-art centers focus on the episodic treatment of acute illnesses and injuries, workers' compensation, and occupational medicine. Each location is equipped with an onsite lab and in-house x-ray capability. AFC is the parent company of AFC Franchising, LLC (AFCF). This position works directly with a franchised business location. The specific job duties and benefits can vary between franchises.

Responsibilities

• Provides general medical care under the direction of a licensed provider to patients in an outpatient clinic setting
• Obtain patient vitals, medical history, and reason for visit, and prepare the patient for a physical exam
• Explain prescribed procedures and treatments to patients
• Ensure all ordered tests are performed accurately and in a timely manner
• Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with the approved procedure
• Draw blood and preparation labs for reference lab processing and/or in-house processing
• Perform laboratory tests, lab-quality controls, and equipment maintenance according to written instructions
• Respond to all lab messages and call back requests
• Perform all drug screening procedures in accordance with established rules and regulations
• Ensure patient immunizations are well documented and administered in accordance with the approved procedure
• Conduct physician referrals as well as service pre-certifications on an as-needed basis
• Prepare exam rooms; sterilize instruments, equipment, and supplies for procedures

Requirements

• Medical Assistant Certificate
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Must be available to work: Day Shift, Night Shift, Weekdays, Weekends.
• Possess exceptional customer service skills
• Phlebotomy (Preferred)
• Bilingual (Spanish)

Schedule

• Must be able to work: Weekdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and Saturdays from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

• Pay - $21.00-$23.00 per hour
