Job summary

Responsibilities

Summary/objectiveThe Medical Assistant assists the physicians and/or midlevel providers in providing consistent, quality medical care. The Medical Assistant will also be involved in rooming patients, preparation and assistance for various clinic examinations and procedures, vaccinations, and recording information in the electronic record.Essential functionsGreets and courteously escorts patient to examination room.Determines and documents reason for the visitObtains patient vital signs and accurately documents information in the EMR.Performs diagnostic tests and general specimen collection duties (including blood, urine, throat swabs, etc.) or other medical office procedures as clinically indicated/directed by providerCompletes primary clinical duties including collecting vitals, and completing blood draws, injections, vaccinations, and point of care testing.Informs patient of laboratory/diagnostic test results as directed by provider and according to office protocols; communicates with patient regarding provider instructions based on test results received.Reviews and reconciles medications with each encounter.Administers prescribed medications and vaccines as directed by healthcare provider.Actively works to improve practice performance and safety protocols.Provides patient/family education as directed by healthcare provider.Takes and relays accurate, comprehensive, dated and signed messages in a timely manner.Serves as liaison between patient and healthcare provider when necessary.
