Job summary

A local healthcare provider in Summerville is looking for a Medical Administrative Assistant to manage patient interactions, assist in medical office procedures, and ensure accurate record-keeping. The ideal candidate will have strong critical thinking and communication skills, with experience in the healthcare field preferred. This full-time position offers unlimited PTO but does not include medical benefits. Pay is based on experience.

Qualifications

  • Must be capable of performing tasks within the scope of a Medical Administrative Assistant.
  • At least 2 years experience in healthcare field is preferred.
  • Understanding of HIPAA rules and guidelines is necessary.
  • Must assess patient concerns and provide required assistance within scope of practice.

Responsibilities

  • Register patients according to established protocols.
  • Assist patients with necessary forms and documentation.
  • Maintain and manage patient records.
  • Schedule hospital admissions and appointments for patients.
  • Safeguard patient privacy and confidentiality.
  • Answer incoming calls and handle inquiries; transfer calls as required.
  • Collect co-pays and payments.
  • Schedule admissions, tests, and external appointments.
  • Obtain external medical reports as required.
  • Respond to information requests and manage website/social post correspondence.
  • Perform other clerical duties as assigned.
  • Maintain stock of forms and office supplies; keep reception area neat and clean.

Job description

Medical Administrative Assistant - Full Time/Hourly - 8am - 5pm - Summerville, SC

Attend to patients on the phone and in person.Process patient payments for multiple medical providers and manage collections process. Coordinate and organize appointments and documentation to facilitate the smooth running of the healthcare environment and support delivery of quality patient care.

Critical Thinking Skills Required
  • Must be able to speak with patients and use practice management system to answer inquires accurately and confidently and while maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Must be able to think critically about how to properly handle emergent situations that may arise in the healthcare environment.
  • Must be capable of performing proper research concerning patient claims and request before escalating to management and to the physician.
  • Must be able to properly assess patients concerns and provide minimum assistance required as a Medical Administrative Assistant without working outside of your scope of practice and expertise.
  • Must understand basic medical office terms and protocols.
  • Must be aware of HIPAA Rules and Guidelines and how to properly protect the privacy of patients.
Communication SkillsRequired
  • Must be able to communicate the details of patients issues with accuracy to the physician. This includes medication issues, medication request and pertinent patient messages left for the physician.
  • Must be able to communicate physicians responses or directives to patients with 100% accuracy. This includes written data, in person, or audible communication.
  • Must at all times show that you care and show compassion for patients concerns and wellbeing.
  • Must have have financial literacy and be able to provide daily financial ledgers to management team and physician.
Daily Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Register patients according to established protocols

  • Inform patients of medical office procedures and policy
  • Maintain and manage patient records
  • Answer incoming calls and deal with inquiries

  • Schedule hospital admissions, tests, scans and outside appointments for patients
  • Obtain external medical reports as required by medical professionals
  • Respond and comply to requests for information
  • Deal with incoming and outgoing post to website and social media
  • Complete other clerical duties as assigned
  • Maintain stock of forms and office supplies
  • Ensure reception area is well maintained, neat and clean
  • Safeguard patient privacy and confidentiality
