The Department of Financial Protection and Innovation (DFPI) protects consumers and oversees financial service providers and products. The DFPI supervises the operations of state-licensed financial institutions, including banks, credit unions, and money transmitters. Additionally, the DFPI licenses and regulates a variety of financial service providers, including securities brokers and dealers, investment advisers, payday lenders, and other consumer finance lenders. Job Description and Duties

The Public Information Officer II acts as a lead Information Officer for the DFPI under the direction of the Deputy Commissioner for the Office of Public Affairs (OPA). Key duties include the creation of media relations strategies and materials to educate California journalists about DFPI through various media channels. The incumbent is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive media relations program, serving as a subject matter expert to the media and external audiences, and working closely with executive leadership and relevant state and federal agencies and other stakeholders. The role also supports DFPI’s internal communications.

Minimum Qualifications

• Experience: Either: I Two years of experience in the California state service performing duties equivalent to those of an Information Officer I; II Broad and successful experience demonstrating the ability to plan and direct a comprehensive public information program, including at least five years’ professional experience in preparing and disseminating information, a substantial part of which included supervising the writing of others.
• Education: Equivalent to graduation from college. Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
