Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a Broadcast Operations Engineer to monitor and maintain broadcast transmission quality, operate channel playout, and support live streaming across multiple platforms. You will troubleshoot and resolve issues, manage media assets, and ensure smooth production workflows in a fast-paced environment.

The role requires hands-on experience with media operations systems, switchers, and server-based broadcasts, with a focus on reliability and collaboration across teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor-level training or technical schooling in broadcast operations or related field.
  • 1+ years of experience in engineering, control room, media operations, or network operations within television broadcasting.
  • Experience operating Media Operations switchers and related equipment.
  • Experience troubleshooting standard- and high-definition broadcast video and audio signals.
  • Experience in a server-based broadcast operation.
  • Understanding of analog and digital signal chains, video levels and audio levels.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and maintain the health and quality of outbound transmission/streaming and inbound returns.
  • Support additional live feeds and social media simulcast programming.
  • Operate live and non-live channel playout.
  • Execute live streaming to multiple platforms.
  • Monitor system dashboards and troubleshoot issues.
  • Conduct routine QC checks on software, processes, equipment, and incoming/outgoing video and audio signals.
  • Prepare, record, ingest, archive, restore, and manage media assets and storage workflows.
  • Perform service recovery during server-based playout and live shows, informing relevant departments via the ticketing system.
  • Configure and operate Media Operations systems and applications, including channel automation and routing.
  • Provide technical and operational support for new projects and proposals.
  • Manage backup programming for additional channels.
  • Repair and maintain broadcast-related equipment.
  • Investigate and resolve technical and operational issues within transmission, MAM, control room, playout, graphics, camera, robotics, switcher, and router systems.
  • Report shift status and record technical discrepancies and operational issues in the ZEUS system.
  • Monitor the NOC dashboard and troubleshoot broadcast network devices.

Job description

Requirements
  • College degree, technical school, military training, or equivalent combination of training and experience
  • 1+ years of recent engineering, control room, media operations, or network operations experience in a television broadcast environment
  • Experience operating Media Operations switchers and related equipment
  • Experience troubleshooting standard- and high-definition broadcast video and audio signals
  • Experience in a server-based broadcast operation
  • Understanding of analog and digital signal chains, video levels, and audio levels
  • Overall knowledge of television production processes, broadcast operations, and technical production requirements
  • Ability to work on elevated surfaces, stairs, and ladders
  • Ability to work in normal warehouse conditions, including hot, cold, dusty, or loud environments
  • Availability to work 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts on any day of the week
