About the role

This role provides senior leadership for client media business by translating business goals, audience insights, market dynamics, and performance data into integrated media strategies that drive measurable results and long-term growth. The position serves as a trusted executive-level client partner, leading strategic conversations, shaping investment and measurement approaches, and ensuring media plans, activation, and optimization efforts remain aligned to client objectives and market opportunities. It directs account financial stewardship, contract and scope management, and resource planning while guiding cross-functional collaboration across strategy, creative, analytics, activation, and leadership teams to deliver cohesive business outcomes. The role also develops planning leaders, strengthens team capability, champions operational excellence, and advances innovation through emerging media, technology, and industry thought leadership grounded in the organization’s core values.

What you'll do
  • Lead account business and media strategy — Serve as the primary strategic media leader for assigned accounts, translating business objectives, market dynamics, audience insights, and performance data into integrated media approaches that drive measurable business outcomes. Ensure media investments support both short-term performance goals and long-term business growth.
  • Serve as the senior client partner and trusted advisor — Develop and maintain executive-level client relationships through strategic consultation, proactive communication, and thoughtful problem solving. Lead media discussions, provide business-focused recommendations, and identify opportunities that strengthen client partnerships and deliver incremental value.
  • Direct account media performance and investment strategy — Provide strategic oversight for media investments, planning frameworks, budget allocation approaches, optimization priorities, and measurement strategies across assigned business. Ensure media recommendations align with client objectives, market opportunities, and performance expectations.
  • Oversee integrated planning, execution, and optimization — Guide the development and execution of annual and campaign-level media strategies, ensuring planning, activation, and measurement efforts remain aligned with approved objectives. Evaluate performance trends, identify opportunities, and direct optimization efforts that improve effectiveness and business outcomes.
  • Lead account financial stewardship and contract management — Oversee account-level media budgets, financial performance, resource investments, and contractual obligations. Partner with finance and agency leadership to understand contract structures, manage scope, ensure profitability, and identify opportunities for efficiency, growth, and expanded client value.
  • Direct resource planning and team leadership — Provide leadership, guidance, and support for media planning teams responsible for assigned accounts. Align resources with business priorities, monitor workloads, remove barriers to success, and create an environment that supports accountability, collaboration, and high-quality execution.
  • Develop planning leaders and strengthen team capability — Coach and develop Associate Media Directors, Media Planning Supervisors, Senior Media Planners, and other team members through mentorship, feedback, knowledge sharing, and leadership development opportunities. Strengthen organizational capability by building future leaders and promoting planning excellence.
  • Drive media innovation and strategic thought leadership — Evaluate emerging media platforms, technologies, consumer behaviors, measurement approaches, and industry trends. Develop points of view, strategic frameworks, and innovative approaches that improve client outcomes, strengthen agency capabilities, and support business growth.
  • Foster cross-functional business partnership — Collaborate with account leadership, strategy teams, creative partners, analytics teams, activation teams, media partners, and agency leadership to ensure media initiatives support broader client business objectives. Build alignment and drive integrated decision-making across stakeholders.
  • Champion operational excellence and agency standards — Promote adherence to agency processes, quality standards, governance requirements, and operational best practices. Continuously improve workflows, encourage accountability, and support initiatives that strengthen efficiency, consistency, and performance across teams.

Qualifications

Relevant Degree — Bachelor's degree in marketing, advertising, communications, business, analytics, or a closely related field, or equivalent professional experience demonstrating the ability to lead media planning and client-facing strategy work.

** Account Complexity — Demonstrated experience leading day-to-day media operations for multi-market, regional, national, or multi-location brands, including coordinating cross-functional teams, presenting recommendations to clients, and guiding junior media staff.

Business Performance Leadership — Demonstrated experience managing account performance through strategic investment decisions, financial stewardship, resource allocation, profitability management, and business planning activities that contribute to client growth and long-term account success.

Client Leadership — Demonstrated experience serving as a senior client-facing advisor, developing strategic recommendations, presenting complex media approaches, influencing investment decisions, and guiding business discussions across multiple stakeholders and decision-makers.

Media Leadership — 10+ years of progressive media planning and buying experience across multiple channels, including responsibility for channel strategy, budget allocation, campaign execution, and performance optimization for client accounts.

Business & Leadership Development, Preferred — Professional certifications or advanced training related to leadership, coaching, strategic planning, financial management, contract negotiation, client partnership, or business operations are preferred.

Media & Marketing Certifications, Preferred — Professional certifications or advanced training related to media strategy, digital advertising, marketing analytics, audience research, measurement, advertising technology, or other relevant media disciplines are preferred.
