Job summary

Portland Public Schools is seeking a Media Center Specialist for Portland High School to create a welcoming, student-focused library environment that supports literacy, research, and technology. The role involves helping students with internet research, utilizing digital resources, and maintaining organized library and device inventories.

The ideal candidate will collaborate with staff, engage high school learners, and develop activities that connect literacy with college and career exploration

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience working with and/or instructing high school-aged students.
• Experience supporting curriculum and student learning.

Responsibilities

• Maintaining an efficient and organized library/media center system (circulation, shelving, inventory, organization).
• Supervising students in the Media Center and maintaining a safe, positive learning environment.
• Assisting students in locating and using books, research materials, online resources, and other educational resources.
• Supporting students in developing research, information literacy, and responsible technology-use skills.
• Gathering resources and developing activities for college and career exploration.
• Facilitating student literacy activities, including a student book club and reading initiatives.
• Assisting teachers in selecting instructional materials appropriate for varied student abilities.
• Supporting integration and use of technology to enhance student learning.
• Managing student technology inventory and district-issued devices and accessories.
• Assisting with distribution, check-in/check-out, and organization of student devices.
