Job summary

Ascension is seeking a Part-time Night Shift RN at Ascension Saint Joseph in Chicago, IL. The role leads daily med-surg operations, coordinates shift staffing, delegates assignments, and ensures high-quality patient care across the unit.

The ideal candidate holds an Illinois RN license, a current BLS provider certification, and a diploma or licensure to practice. Nursing leadership and mentoring skills will support staff development and performance evaluations.

Qualifications

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• Registered Nurse credentialed from the Illinois Board of Nursing obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.
• Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing OR Required professional licensure at time of hire.
• One year RN medical surgical experience (preferred)

Responsibilities

• Direct daily med-surg operations, coordinate shift staffing, and manage resources to meet productivity standards while balancing unit patient-physician dynamics.
• Evaluate daily patient needs to delegate population-appropriate assignments, monitor nursing/support staff, and ensure consistent, high-quality patient care.
• Mentor and educate nursing staff, provide input on hiring and performance evaluations, and foster professional development across assigned shifts.
• Oversee compliance with clinical objectives, resolve patient care complaints through established channels, and justify unit productivity variances to leadership.
