Inova Health System at Inova Fairfax Medical Campus in Fairfax, VA, seeks intensivists to join our 30+ physician team. You will care for the most acutely ill adults in four ICUs—Medical-Surgical, Coronary, Cardiovascular, and Neuroscience—providing critical care across the hospital and subspecialty support within the system.

This PRN role mainly entails night and weekend shifts, with opportunities to contribute to clinical research and mentor APPs, while collaborating closely with hospitalists

Qualifications

• MD degree required; board eligibility or certification in Critical Care.
• ACGME residency followed by ABMS board-certified fellowship in critical care.

Responsibilities

• Provides medical care to critically ill patients in the ICU.
• Collaborates with other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated care.
• Manages patient care plans and treatment decisions.
• Initiates and adjusts treatment plans as needed.
• Participates in clinical research and multidisciplinary activities.

Job description

Inova is looking for intensivists to join our collaborative, high performing team of over 30 physicians and advanced practice providers, who care for the most acutely ill patients in our 919-bed, Level 1 Trauma Center flagship hospital at Inova Fairfax Medical Campus (IFMC). Our need for intensivists has grown as the acuity and volume of patients in our adult ICU’s has increased. We are especially looking for intensivists with expertise in cardiac critical care and neurocritical care.

Providers care for the critically ill patients in the four adult ICU’s at IFMC- Medical-Surgical ICU, Coronary Care Unit, Cardiovascular ICU, and Neuroscience ICU. We also provide critical care consultation to patients throughout the hospital, and subspecialty critical care support to the Inova system of hospitals. Post-ICU care is supported by a team of hospitalists, including a subspecialty hospitalist service for neurologic diseases and injuries.

This role is a PRN role with mostly nights and weekends shifts.

Job Responsibilities

• Provides medical care to critically ill patients who have been admitted to the hospital.
• Collaborates with other healthcare professionals to ensure that patients receive coordinated care.
• Manages patient care plans and make recommendations for treatment.
• Initiates, monitors, and adjusts treatment plans.
• Participates in wide-range of clinical research projects, studies and multidisciplinary team activities.
• Keeps accurate medical records and documents patient care.
• Acts as a liaison between patients, families, and other healthcare providers.
• Stays current with the latest medical treatments and procedures.
• May perform additional duties as assigned.
• Completes initial assessments and evaluations of new patients and provides ongoing monitoring of patients' medical conditions while providing treatment.
• Orders prescription medications and diagnostic procedures while authorizing and coordinating all specialty and ancillary services.
• Provide critical care consultation to patients throughout the hospital, and subspecialty critical care support
• managing patients requiring vasopressos, mechanical support, post operative neurosurgical patients, stroke patient and cardiogenic shock with the support of team APP’s

Minimum Qualifications

• Education: Doctor of Medicine degree from an accredited institution. Board eligible or board certified in Critical Care.
• Experience: successful completion of ACGME residency program and a subsequent fellowship with ABMS board certification in critical care
• Licensure: Current unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Virginia.
• Payer Credentialing: Ability to successfully complete the credentialing process by third-party payors and Ability to enrolled as a CMS Medicare/Medicaid payor
• Medical Staff Credentialing: Successful completion of credentialing for Medical Staff membership and appropriate clinical privileges sufficient to perform all required services
