Job Overview

The Medication Care Manager is responsible for providing the highest quality care and services by administering medication and treatments safely and organized. Responsibilities include medication administration, documentation, and resident care, always in accordance with laws, standards, regulations, and Sunrise policies to ensure quality care.

Responsibilities & Qualifications
Essential Duties

Supporting our Mission, Principles of Service, and Core Values is fundamental. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Medication Administration
  • Provide quality care by administering medication and treatments safely.
  • Review and document resident information in the electronic health record.
  • Receive medication updates from RCD or Wellness Nurse.
  • Administer, assist, and observe medications, following the Six Rights of Medication Pass.
  • Ensure medications are passed on time using the mobile med cart.
  • Document medication administration, refusals, or missed doses.
  • Maintain confidentiality of resident information and medications.
  • Report concerns or unavailable medications to the supervisor.
  • Restock medication carts after passes.
  • Assist in checking medications regardless of packaging.
  • Assess residents for 'as needed' medications and document accordingly.
  • Count narcotics with a colleague each shift and report discrepancies.
  • Keep medication rooms and carts clean and organized.
  • Follow refill procedures and notify if prescriptions are needed.
  • Promote resident independence and dignity, adhering to Sunrise Principles of Service.
  • Respond empathetically to residents, considering their communication, history, and needs.
  • Practice good hygiene and standard precautions.
Resident Care Communications
  • Notify RCD of any concerns from residents or families.
  • Participate in daily cross-over meetings.
  • Contribute to developing individualized service plans.
Risk Management & Safety
  • Ensure community compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Follow safety procedures, PPE, fire safety, SDS, and lockout/tagout protocols.
  • Report accidents, hazards, or unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Store oxygen tanks safely and monitor levels.
Team Success & Training
  • Work as part of a team and support team goals.
  • Demonstrate Sunrise’s Credo and Principles of Service.
  • Engage in team and community programs, surveys, and training.
  • Attend meetings and required training sessions.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Experience & Qualifications
  • High School diploma/GED (per regulations).
  • Maintain certifications such as CPR and First Aid.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Previous senior care experience preferred.
  • Desire to serve and care for seniors.
  • If driving a Sunrise vehicle, sign the Driver job description and follow safety duties.
