Job description

Job Title: Mechatronics Engineer

The Mechatronics Engineer designs, develops, and commissions automated mechanical and control systems, taking equipment from concept through design, fabrication, programming, testing, and installation. This role combines mechanical design, PLC/HMI programming, and hands‑on work with industrial equipment to create and improve automated machinery and purification systems in a fast‑growing startup environment.

Responsibilities
  • Design mechanical equipment, assemblies, frames, piping layouts, and components using SolidWorks.
  • Develop and maintain detailed engineering drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), and manufacturing documentation for new and existing equipment.
  • Design and modify automated process equipment and purification systems to meet performance and reliability requirements.
  • Develop, program, and troubleshoot PLC programs, ensuring robust and reliable control logic.
  • Develop and modify HMI interfaces to provide intuitive operator controls and clear system feedback.
  • Integrate pumps, valves, motors, VFDs, sensors, transmitters, and other instrumentation into complete systems.
  • Develop equipment operating sequences, alarms, interlocks, and control logic to ensure safe and efficient operation.
  • Read, interpret, and create P&IDs and electrical/control schematics for complex automated systems.
  • Select appropriate mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation components based on application requirements.
  • Work directly with manufacturing technicians during equipment assembly, providing technical guidance and support.
  • Perform system startup, testing, debugging, and factory acceptance testing to validate equipment performance.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and controls issues, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
  • Support installation and commissioning of equipment at customer facilities, ensuring smooth startup and handover.
  • Improve and standardize existing equipment designs to create configurable and repeatable platforms.
  • Participate in new product and system development, contributing ideas and technical expertise.
  • Work collaboratively with customers, vendors, technicians, and other engineers to solve technical problems and refine solutions.
  • Dig into complex problems to determine why issues occur and drive resolution to the root cause.
  • Build and prototype systems hands‑on, validating designs and making iterative improvements.
Essential Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3–7+ years of experience designing or developing automated equipment.
  • Experience designing mechanical equipment using SolidWorks, including frames, assemblies, and piping layouts.
  • Strong PLC programming or troubleshooting experience, with the ability to debug and resolve logic issues.
  • Understanding of industrial automation and control systems, including PLCs, HMIs, and related hardware.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, P&IDs, and electrical schematics.
  • Experience working with sensors, instrumentation, motors, valves, pumps, and other industrial components.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills, with a focus on root‑cause analysis.
  • Hands‑on ability to build, assemble, and prototype systems, not just design from a desk.
  • Ability to independently solve technical problems and take ownership of projects from concept to commissioning.
  • Experience with PLC/HMI platforms such as Allen‑Bradley/Rockwell, Siemens, AutomationDirect, or similar.
  • Experience working with VFDs, analog instrumentation, digital I/O, communications, and industrial networking.
  • Background in automated machinery and industrial equipment design and development.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience working for an OEM, machine builder, or systems integrator.
  • Experience taking equipment from concept through design, fabrication, programming, testing, and commissioning.
  • Experience developing standardized or configurable equipment platforms.
  • Strong understanding of BOMs and BOM structure, including configuration and maintenance.
  • Exposure to robotics and industrial robots (e.g., Fanuc or similar) and controls engineering.
  • Experience with machine design, including mechanical layout and integration with control systems.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross‑functional teams, including customers, vendors, technicians, and engineers.
  • Comfort working in a dynamic, growth‑oriented startup environment and contributing to scalable processes and designs.
  • SolidWorks proficiency for mechanical design and prototype development.
Work Environment

This is an onsite role based in a hands‑on engineering and manufacturing environment, where you work directly with equipment every day. You will spend significant time in workshops and production areas, collaborating with technicians and other engineers during assembly, testing, and commissioning. The setting is that of a fast‑growing startup, offering the opportunity to contribute at the ground floor to evolving equipment platforms and processes. Work involves regular interaction with industrial machinery, instrumentation, and control systems, and requires comfort with tools, test equipment, and being close to active systems.
