Be part of building the world's largest Robot!

Since 2016, SIA Solutions, a Salas O'Brien Company, has been working with the National Robotics Engineering Center (NREC) of Carnegie Mellon University on the design of a Concrete Mat Laying Robotics System for use in the marine industry by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. In 2025, the project is advancing from design and testing to full-scale production and implementation.

This project will significantly impact traffic on the Mississippi River and create a safer work environment.

SIA seeks a Mechatronics Automation Technician to collaborate with Engineers and Designers, providing technical support during production, testing, and system development.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering innovative capabilities of national importance. They will work with advanced sensors, communication systems, and unmanned platforms, supported by top-tier hardware, testing infrastructure, and a team that values excellence and continuous learning.

Responsibilities:
  1. Assemble large electrical robotics systems, installing electrical components, motors, sensors, and subsystems, and repairing wiring as needed.
  2. Follow diagrams, manuals, and specifications to ensure proper assembly and maintain detailed project documentation.
  3. Maintain a safe, clean work environment in compliance with safety procedures.
  4. Support large-scale robotics testing and operational trials, troubleshooting and repairing systems as necessary.
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills:
  • 2-5 years' experience in Industrial Automation, Manufacturing, or Robotics
  • Ability to troubleshoot automation equipment
  • Experience routing cabling on large robotics systems
  • Comfort in an R&D environment
  • Willingness to travel up to 40%
  • Electro-mechanical assembly skills
  • Experience building electrical sub-panels and cabinets
  • Ability to read technical drawings and schematics
  • Basic PLC troubleshooting skills
  • Experience working with high voltage electrical systems
  • Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic tools
  • Ability to build R&D cabling harnesses
Location:

Pittsburgh, PA

Travel:

Extensive travel expected, including to shipyards in Louisiana.

Compensation & Benefits:

The base salary range is $60,000 - $70,000 USD annually, determined by skills and experience. The role includes performance bonuses and a comprehensive benefits package, such as:
