Job summary

GE Transportation (A Wabtec Company) in Erie, PA seeks a Mechanical Testing - Project Engineer to lead testing from concept to reliability analysis for legacy components. You will define test scope, timing and ensure compliance, interfacing with engineering teams and suppliers to drive projects to completion.

The ideal candidate has a solid engineering background, experience managing multiple projects, and proficiency in GD&T, FEA (ANSYS/COSMOS), and 3D modeling (SolidWorks/UG).

Qualifications

• BS in Engineering or equivalent technical experience.
• Experience leading multiple test projects and design reviews.
• Familiar with GD&T and Six Sigma processes.

Responsibilities

• Develop concept and detailed design for test parameters.
• Act as technical authority for projects at Wabtec test facilities.
• Own technical/cost/reliability/performance deliverables for mechanical tests.
• Collaborate with component and systems engineering and tooling shops in Erie, PA and global sites.
• Write and prioritize test requests to support the test lab.
• Review and approve test fixturing designs (in-house and 3rd party).
• Participate in Tollgate technical design reviews.
• Support advanced testing of mechanical components.

Title: Mechanical Testing - Project Engineer

Location: GE Transportation (A Wabtec Company); Erie, PA

Job Description

The role is responsible for testing components in preliminary design through to reliability analysis for legacy components. The engineer will establish test scope, delivery timing, and compliance. The Engineer will interface with respective departments and local suppliers to execute assigned projects. The candidate should have a solid engineering background and proven experience with leading various testing and design of test projects.

Essential Responsibilities

• Responsibilities to include development of concept design, detailed design, and design analysis for test parameters.
• Act as the technical authority for assigned projects at Wabtec test facilities.
• Ownership of stated technical/cost/reliability/performance deliverables of assigned mechanical tests.
• Interactions will include component engineering teams; systems engineering; and 3rd party tooling shops in Erie, PA and global sites.
• Help manage and write test requests in overall support of the test lab.
• Support review and approval of test fixturing designs developed in-house and at 3rd party for mechanical testing of components.
• Participate in Tollgate level technical design reviews.
• Supports the advanced testing of mechanical components.

Desired Skills

• Experience with managing multiple projects simultaneously.
• Strong interpersonal and leadership abilities.
• Experience with GD&T, general mfg. processes, tooling and Six Sigma.
• Knowledge of mechanical design and advanced manufacturing processes.
• Experience working in ANSYS/COSMOS and/or other commercially available FEA programs as well as 3D modeling (UG or Solid Works), a plus.
• Knowledge of Reliability data analysis through statistical modeling.
