Job summary

Steel Dynamics is seeking a Mechanical Testing Lab Technician in Columbus, MS. The role involves handling mechanical tests, collecting samples, and ensuring equipment is verified and maintained to high safety standards.

You will work with a team to perform tests, document results, and support lab operations while maintaining a clean and safe environment in an industrial setting.

Qualifications

• Strong safety awareness.
• Excellent communication (verbal, written & electronic).
• Self-motivated with ability to work without direct supervision.
• Works well with others and independently.
• Quality and detail oriented with mechanical inclination.
• Willing to work scheduled and unscheduled overtime.
• Able to work in extreme environments and lift up to 50 lbs.
• Willing to drive to pick-up samples from different units.
• Preferred: previous testing or lab experience.

Responsibilities

Mechanical Testing Lab Technician

Responsibilities

• Perform all tasks according to Steel Dynamics health, safety, and environmental requirements
• Ensure monitoring and measuring equipment is verified before use
• Collect and prepare samples for testing
• Perform and evaluate mechanical tests according to standard procedures
• Perform preventative maintenance on all testing lab equipment
• Report any issues to the Mechanical Testing Lab Lead Technician or the Testing Lab Supervisor
• Work with others to repair Mechanical Testing Lab equipment
• Maintain a high level of cleanliness inside and outside of the lab
