Job summary

Steel Dynamics in Columbus, MS is seeking a Mechanical Testing Lab Technician to support testing operations in the lab. You will collect, prepare, and test samples, ensuring equipment readiness and documentation of results. A strong safety mindset and the ability to work with minimal supervision are essential.

You will perform maintenance on equipment, keep the lab clean, and collaborate with team members to resolve issues and improve processes. Driving to pick up samples may be required.

Qualifications

• Must follow health, safety, and environmental requirements.
• Ability to operate and verify monitoring equipment.
• Previous testing or lab experience preferred.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and drive to collect samples.

Responsibilities

• Collect and prepare samples for testing.
• Perform and evaluate mechanical tests according to procedures.

Mechanical Testing Lab Technician

• Perform all tasks according to Steel Dynamics health, safety, and environmental requirements
• Ensure monitoring and measuring equipment is verified before use
• Collect and prepare samples for testing
• Perform and evaluate mechanical tests according to standard procedures
• Perform preventative maintenance on all testing lab equipment
• Report any issues to the Mechanical Testing Lab Lead Technician or the Testing Lab Supervisor
• Work with others to repair Mechanical Testing Lab equipment
• Maintain a high level of cleanliness inside and outside of the lab
• Strong safety awareness
• Self-Motivated and able to work consistently without direct supervision
• Works well with others and independently
• Quality & detail oriented
• Mechanically inclined
• Willing to work scheduled & unscheduled overtime
• Ability to work in extreme environments
• Ability to perform repetitive stretching, reaching, lifting and walking to support routine responsibilities.
