Job summary

Actalent seeks a Mechanical Test Engineer in Berkeley to design and validate complex test beds for battery energy storage systems. You will lead CAD through fabrication, develop HVAC/thermal management, and integrate sensors with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced lab.

You will work onsite in Berkeley, focusing on mechanical hardware, CFD analyses, and robust test environments to identify failure modes early in development.

Qualifications

• Proven mechanical engineer with focus on mechanical systems and design.
• Experience with fluids analysis and CFD for thermal performance.

Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical design of complex test beds from concept to fabrication.
• Design HVAC and thermal management systems for battery test environments.
• Develop test environments that simulate real-world operating conditions.
• Translate requirements into functional hardware for early failure detection.
• Perform airflow, piping, and fluids analysis for optimal performance.
• Collaborate with Electrical, Controls, and Chemical Engineers on integrated systems.
• Support derisking and validation through iterative design and testing.
• Communicate design intent and test system performance clearly to stakeholders.
