Job summary

Fermilab is hiring a Mechanical Technician I to provide routine technical support in the Mechanical Support Department at our Batavia, IL campus. Under supervision, you will fabricate, set up, operate, test, repair, and modify lab equipment, and assist in assembly and calibration of experimental apparatus.

You will write procedures, maintain records, perform preventive maintenance, and respond to operational needs or emergencies.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma; relevant experience preferred.
• Fundamental knowledge of electrical/mechanical/ES&H concepts.

Responsibilities

• Conduits routine fabrication, setup, operation, testing, repairs and modifications for lab projects.
• Assist construction and assembly of experiment and support equipment; prepare and calibrate equipment.
• Write procedures for finished work and log data in a database/logbook.
• Provide preventive and routine maintenance; troubleshoot and repair instruments and equipment.
• Perform safety audits, waste handling, and comply with EH&S regulations.
