Job summary

Fermilab in Batavia, IL is seeking a SRF Mechanical Technician to provide complex technical support under limited supervision. The role involves fabricating, setting up, operating and testing mechanical systems for laboratory projects, and may include safety documentation and data entry.

The ideal candidate has a HS degree or technical certificate with 5+ years of related experience or 3+ years in a DOE lab. Onsite work is required, with potential for shift-based responses as needed.

Qualifications

• HS degree (or technical certificate or equivalent) plus 5+ years of extensive related experience or 3+ years' experience at a DOE laboratory or in a technical skill of strategic importance to the Lab's mission (e.g., cryo, radio frequency, radiation protection, clean room, etc.).
• Experience working in a DOE laboratory environment is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Fabricate, set-up, operate, test, repair, and/or modify a wide variety of moderately complex to complex equipment for Laboratory projects in the assigned area.
• May act as a point person for technical issues and assist in construction and assembly of experiment equipment.
• Prepare set-up for testing phases and test equipment using diagnostic software.
• Produce reports and maintain technical data and safety records.
